How Often Should I Clean My Hot Tub in the Fall?
It is usually recommended that hot tub owners clean their spas on a weekly basis; however, you may need to clean your hot tub more frequently in the fall, depending on how often you use it. If you use your hot tub regularly or have many people using your tub at a time, weekly hot tub service is the minimum requirement.
Weekly Maintenance Tasks
Every week or twice a week, depending on your usage, you should complete the following tasks.
- Check the Water Chemistry: As you use your hot tub, the water chemistry changes as body oils, skincare products, and more can impact pH and sanitizer levels. Use a test strip every week to check in on your chemistry. You should then balance your water according to the reading. You’ll most likely need to add some sanitizer and pH balancers.
- Skim Out Leaves and Debris: Falling leaves in autumn can clog your hot tub filters, leading to damage. Skimming your hot tub weekly can help minimize this. It will also keep your spa water cleaner and fresher.
- Wipe Down the Waterline: You may notice a ring that forms around the inside edge of your hot tub after each use. This is usually dirt and skincare residue. Wiping it down weekly will prevent buildup.
- Rinse the Filter: If you use your hot tub frequently, then it is wise to rinse out your filter every week to prevent buildup. If you use it less regularly, you can do this every two weeks.
