How Do I Clean And Maintain Hot Tub Filters?

Regular care and cleaning are required if you want your hot tub filters to be in good shape all season long. Hot tub maintenance will go a long way in keeping your water pristine and your hot tub equipment in good condition.

What Do Hot Tub Filters Do?

As the name suggests, hot tub filters help filter out dirt, debris, and oils from your water. This helps keep your water clean, clear, and hygienic. Your hot tub pump will force water through the filter, which can then catch tiny particles of dirt.

Steps to Take to Maintain Your Hot Tub Filters

A couple of regular maintenance practices will help limit filter clogs and hot tub damage.

Weekly Maintenance

Every week, you should be rinsing out your hot tub filter and cleaning off any residual buildup. You can use a garden hose or this or any kind of high-pressure tap. Just ensure that you flip the filter and rinse off both sides for best results.

Deep Clean Monthly

Once a month, give your filter a deeper clean. Soak it in a filter cleaning solution or a mix of warm water and a specialized hot tub filter cleaner for several hours (or overnight). This step removes oils, lotions, and buildup that rinsing alone can’t handle. After soaking, rinse thoroughly and let the filter dry before reinstalling it.

Replace the Filter Regularly

Even with regular cleaning, hot tub filters are not meant to last forever. When the time comes, you should replace your filter. Usually, hot tub filters need to be replaced once a year; however, this may vary depending on how often you use your tub. If you notice poor water flow or if the filter appears to be dirty, then it may be time to replace it.
